Anguloa x ruckeri Male
Default Anguloa x ruckeri

I've had this plant for several years, but never paid much attention to it. It gets stuffed into whatever spot it will fit, so I was surprised and thrilled to see a spike alongside the new growth. Since it started opening at least three weeks ago, I'm assuming this is a far as it's going to go. The fragrance is not strong, but very exotic and pleasant, sort of soft gardenia with a hint of lilac and spice.

Great success. Big compliments.
I am not sure that this is Anguloa xruckeri in the sense of Oakeley and as it was described as a natural hybrid coming from Venezuela (Ang. hohenlohii x Ang. clowesii). The interior is much too dark.
My guess is that it should be called Anguloa hohenlohii.
But many sources have contributed to this confusion, among them the Swiss Orchid Foundation and Ecuagenera.
For a detailed analysis and to keep it apart from Ang. brevilabris we need a side view of the lip.
For all specifically interested people I add a link to Oakeley's Angulo@ page

A Key to the Anguloa Species and their Natural Hybrids.

Thanks everyone. Interresting stuff, euplusia. I see how confusing this could be. You're probably right about it being hohenlohii, but I think I'll stick with the name on the tag for now.
