Received my first Zygo as a gift today! Female
Default Received my first Zygo as a gift today!

Hello

What a surprise! Newbie Neo the rescue orchid queen received a beautiful Zygo today just because! However, I know squat about this orchid and I am reading fast fast to make sure I keep it as healthy and happy as possible. My son who is disabled, purchased this plant as a gift for me and I want to make sure it thrives.

My first question is: Are the pseudobulbs supposed to be wrinkled? Is this a sign of stress? I've seen a lot of info on watering, feeding and light but not on the condition of the pseudobulbs. I'm sorry it's not the best picture, I tried to tilt the pot to capture as much light as possible to pick up the wrinkless in the bulb.

I'm really excited to have an orchid that's NOT a rescue! And that's in bloom! How 'bout that folks!

Cheers!
Neo

Default DEHYDRATED

your plant is a little dehydrated. Not a big deal, just water the plant. but even then the wrinkles might not completely go away, dosent mean anything. Althought I can tell that from your picture you need to repot the plant, or a least replace the potting medium

Intermediate to warm (55 F - 90 F).

Bright shade to moderate indirect bright light.

Moderate to high humidity (50% - 80%).

Moderate to good air circulation.

General guidelines for watering ("training wheel advice" for watering):

Water once a week during the winter.

Water 3 times a week during the spring, summer, and fall.

Why this kind of watering regimen?

Because they experience seasonal rains.

Potting media can be moss, diatomite, or bark. But watering must be adjusted accordingly to each respective potting media.

It is a little dehydrated. It is not a big deal, just water a little, and it'll plump back up.

Yes, the pseudobulb will not be wrinkle free from here-on-out.

Got any questions, feel free to ask.

One important piece of advice, do not get any water on the plant, especially down in the growth. These are very susceptible to rot.

You might want to consider repotting, the surface looks a bit iffy, so I wonder what's it's like below.
