Thumbs up Blptm. Midnight Blue 'Cardinal's Roost'

Bollopetalum Midnight Blue 'Cardinal's Roost' is a cross of Bollea violacea x Zygopetalum B.G. White. This plant is in a 4" pot and stands ~12" tall. The two inflorescence start from the base of new growths and flower before the leaves have developed. This is a young plant and has 4 flowers on each inflorescence, 5 - 10 flowers would be common. The flowers have a subtle, sweet fragrance.

The plant looks happy and I love the color of the blooms. Do the blooms always hug the top of the pot?

Nice plant. There's a lot of variation within this hybrid. Some plants have darker flowers than others, and some have more fragrance. I had one a while ago, but it didn't have a scent. These are becoming quite common nowadays.

My Bollopetalum died of brown rot. I had to throw it out to keep my other plants from becoming infected. I'll definitely get a replacement soon.

It depends on the plant, Marilyn, and how much of each parent is in it. One of the parents is Bollea violacea, whose flowers are held low on the plant.
