Dear Paul,

Your plant is not the South American Max. triloris. Your plant is Max. punctostriata, a Central American species related to Max. cucullata. The name punctostriata means stripes made up of spots. The whole group is cucullate (spoon-shaped) referring to the large inflated floral bract that actually cups the back of the flower.
