Default Zygopetalum 'Louisendorf'? how to care for it?

Hi All,
My hubby & I went to buy cat food at the local garden center and they had this plant for 10€ so could not leave without it!
the tag says ' Zygopetalum 'Louisendorf' '..but looking on the web a Louisendorf is all marroon without the stripes? .... anyway it's probably mistagged!& therefore a noid although it has a slight scent.. which is an extra bonus! Can anyone give me some ideas about how to grow it? I have Oncidiums( both species & noids) that I do well with & am wondering if these should treated the same? Anyone growing these in sh? as I fancy potting into sh.
Also it seems like I have 2 plants in the same pot... and one without the spikes has 2 new p/bulbs forming and new roots... I would appreciate any input as this is a 'first' for me, thanks in advance!

Read what I wrote in the previous post (Zygopetalum Artur Elle 'Randy etc...) about the conditions my plant receives... I hope it produces good results for you!! The flowers are beautiful! What a wonderful find!!!

buying cat food at the local garden center? sound like heaven to me! unless i'm buying canned cat food at the local hypermarket, i have to go to pet supply shop which is 2 different shop for the kibbles & litter. and yeah, orchids will be at the nursery and sometimes at the local hypermarket.

Thanks Elliot! high light & likes water is what I have picked up from your thread. Can I ask what other orchids you grow near your Zygo? As wondering if to put it in a South facing window or a West facing one?

Hi Natasha, Yes except they don't sell 'canned' but only dry ' Vet. specialised' food...which you don't find in hypermarkets.. Luckily for me!!!

I grew it only 3 feet away from cattleyas and dendrobiums. I would say grow it in the south window(maybe a foot or two away from the glass, but watch for sunburn)... and try the schultz mix and a clay pot. Water it every 3 days (as long as the medium dries out sufficiently), and fertilize once a week. 30-10-10 after flowering, and 10-30-10 when new growth starts (quite opposite of most orchids!). Mine blooms when the new growth starts, then continuing to mature its pseudobulbs after flowering. Hope this helps!!!

nenella,
You are correct; your plant is mistagged.

Zygolum (Zglm) Louisendorf (Zspm. labiosum x Z. Artur Elle) is an intergeneric cross of the species Zygosepalum labiosum X the famous hybrid, Zygopetalum Artur Elle.

Although I would love to grow the Zygosepalum species, I don't attempt it because it demands warmer temperatures than I provide.

Good Luck!

I had a Zygo once...Very young and bought last year at Botanic (i, like you, go to places for cats food that also sell plants)...I killed it ...So even if I live quite nearby you (comparing to others ) I'm afraid i'm of no use to you on this one....Anyway, i have heard it needs light and raher cool night temperatures compared to daytime...
Anyway..;I'm planning to get another one when I cross one!
Bravo pour cet achat!
