The first pic is with a flash, the second two are without. This is a first bloom for this guy and its kind of a cool little flower. Nothing too splashy but the curled back petals on this plant are normal and definitely give it some character. Enjoy!

Lovely bloom - may I ask where you purchased it?

There was a discussion on another board when I showed my Lyc. brevispatha that Dr. Oakley thinks the candida and brevispatha are actually angelae. Since Kew hasn't made any changes, I will keep mine labeled brevispatha. The International Plant Names Index say the brevispatha and candida are the same plant. All the name changes makes my head spin

The blooms of your candida and my brevispatha are very very similar. I got mine from Ecuagenera - I intend to enjoy it regardless of the name

I got mine from Tropical Orchid Farm, though I know they get a lot of their stock from Latin America. I have to say that yours looks veeery similar to mine! I also checked out my orchidwiz and both flowers look very similar as well. Quite honestly, this is my first Lycaste that Ive ever bloomed so I cant help you with any nomenclature expertise (or even opinion!!) 'cause Im out of my league with these guys. They are a cool little species though, whatever their name(s)!

P.S. I just noticed how much lighter the p-bulbs of your plant are compared to mine. How bright do you grow yours? It looks like I should up the light.

I've always wanted to try this one, Steve and now, seeing yours and Brooke's, I'm even more tempted. I'm a bit confused about light with this one. Most sources say low light but I've been told by a grower, intermediate. How are you growing this one? It's a beauty.

Ive had mine since it went dormant last summer so I kept it fairly shady. Since it wasnt growing, I kept my growing species in the high light areas. Right now Ive got it in low to mid Catt light. I think Im gonna bump that up a bit because the back bulbs are still dark green, though the new growth is lighter.

Steve in the winter I grow them in as much light as I can get in the g/h. During the summer I move them to the area in front of the cooler wall and they get high light from about noon until sundown.

They can easily take catt light and even higher IF you have good air movement.

I have an abundance of air movement; so much so that I wish I had less! It dries out everything. When you say Catt light, do you mean high, low, medium? Sorry to be so specific, but my Catt light tends to be VERY high!!! Thanks!
