Zygo - what is this new growth?

Evening all,

Can any zygo growers tell me what I'm looking at here. Got this orchid last fall, its my one and only so far. Howard talked me into it
I've got 3 of the same looking growths. I would be thrilled to have spikes but also please to know they are new bulbs beginning.

I think its a new growth!
Zygos spike off of very new growth so proly shouldn't be too long before you can look forward to a spike!

One of them is a new bulb, the rest of them are new roots....so you must be doing something right! If you get a flower spike, it will come from the new growth. Good luck!

Well I thought they could possibly be spikes since they are comming from a new growth that began in late Nov.

I'm very happy to know these are new bulbs, I had no idea they could grow that many bulbs so fast.
I got this Zygo Crinitum in sept. It had 95% root rot - 3 bulbs - 1 already rotten and 2 more on the way out.
I'm shocked this plant actually survived!

Damn these zygos are tuff cookies!!!!

Gloria, What was the source of your Zygopetalum crinitum, please? It's a species which is not often found available for sale.

I'm envious, Gloria---I got a Zygo in bloom last March and basically it has done nothing but grow new roots. But I keep hoping because I loved the blooms. Any tips you want to pass along??

After reading that Paramount is in Calgary, I finally saw the maple leaf and Quebec as your location.

This does present a problem. I need to renew my plant import permit, anyway!

Well don't be Annika, I haven't bloomed it yet , LOL! As far as the tips go , I haven't be growing this long enough to share much with you.
I do believe the success in orchid growing is the lights. (IMO) The more light you can give them , the fast they grow. Including bulbs, of course this raises you're chances to get spikes. My Zygo grows along with my catts under flourescent T-8 lights. My tempts range from 75 during the day and 68 for nites. This will change as the warmer months approches.
I grow this one in chilean moss with added large perlite about 25%, its watered 2x per week. I feed every third watering with Miracle-gro 8-7-6. I allow some drying out but not letting it go bone dry. I take my cue from the bulbs - I let them shrivel just a weee bit.

Thank you, Gloria---I'm going to try a better lit spot in a south window and see what happens! Keep us posted on the growth!
