Bifrenaria silvana
Pretty little thing this one is! My plant is not taller than 5" (but it can reach 7"), a true mini Bifrenaria compared to the most known, large ones like thyriantina, harrisoniae or inodora! Native of the humid forests in the souternmost parts of the State of Bahia, in Brazil. The flowers are 1,2" across and very attractive!

Yes, Frederico, it is doing very well in moss! I had it in tree fern fiber and it refused to flower. Eight or nine months ago I planted it in moss and... there they are, the flowers!! |

That's a pretty cool looking plant, and a beautiful flower!  Thanks for sharing Mauro.
The plant reminds me of a gongora or stanhopea in a way, while the blooms remind me of cymbidiums or coelogyne. Quite interesting if you ask me. |

Beto, now I don't think it is! I've been growing it for a few years. While it was planted in tree fern fiber I couldn't make it bloom. Then I decided to plant it in sphag moss. Since then it has been doing way better than before and now the flowers appeared. So, as always, you have to find the way with these species. Sometimes you think the plant is tricky, but a little change in something is enough to turn over a new leaf. |
