Default Maxillaria Xanthina - Beginners problems

I bought this adorable little Maxillaria Xanthina in October last year, and it was looking kind of okay when i got it. But in the last couple months the bulbs has been shrinking and going brown and its been losing leaves. I am not sure what i am doing wrong..
today i repotted it and it was clear that a lot of the roots were rotten.. i really wanna keep it alive, so any good advice is greatly aprreciated!

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum!
First, I don't think that you were responsible for the plant's problems, if it looked "sort of okay" it probably already had root issues. You did exactly the right thing, repotting it. With spring approaching (with more light) hopefully it will start some new growth. If it does, it has a very good chance of surviving. Keep damp but not soggy. It may take awhile so be patient.
