Smile Hola from Colombia

Greeting Everyone,

I'm going on to 5 years living in the city of eternal spring, though this past month it feels more like the city of eternal showers . While living here I really never fancied gardening and much less knowing anything about orchids until March/2016 when my wife told me I was going to be a father for the first time and so a few weeks after that we were told a baby girl was developing nicely inside my wife. My first though for the strangest reason become--I need flowers in and around the house. So that's what I did, every chance I got there was a new pot entering the house until randomness become specific and I feel in love with a wonderful purple Cattleya. 40+ orchids later, I still get excited about seeing one, common or not.

Since then I have tailor my acquisition of orchids mainly from people that have abandoned their orchids. So now when I go out on walks around the city and see one that isn't doing so great I try to give the owner a few tips on improving its condition or offer them money for it. The most unpleasant rescue was of a Cattleya amidst tall weeds, an angry dog and with cow dung as its mix, man I didn't know how hard poop can be until there I was flailing a hammer at it. Glad to be on here and I'll try to document some of the rescues, got a huge Embreea rodigasiana that is waiting for TLC.

J

Welcome to the board and congratulations! I am definitely interested in hearing more of your rescue stories. Have you attached any orchids to trees? That's my favorite thing!

Welcome J! It is great that you live in an area of "eternal spring" because some orchids get very big, and those 40 in your house (and maybe much more?) will get very large. That's okay, who needs furniture! Blessings for your baby daughter! Can't wait to see photos!
