Smile Hello from California

Hello,

My name is Samantha and I live in San Francisco California.

I've owned quite a few orchids of different species over the years (seriously, probably around 60-80), and am just getting back into them after my latest divorce. For some reason, I have absolutely no luck with phalaenopsis but fabulous luck with paphs.

I'm hoping this go around I will get better at convincing more of my plants to bloom more regularly. I think my biggest problem right now may be light as I live in a studio in the city and don't have very good sun.

Welcome to the Orchid Board. Paphs do well in low light, so maybe you're in a good spot.

Welcome! I also live in San Francisco and grow in my apartment (I haven't counted recently, but I estimate I've got about 200 plants). I have mostly paphs, phrags, phals, and catts... although I have been on a neo kick lately. I'm really fortunate to have great light, but I also supplement with LEDs. If you have the space for a rack it's not too difficult to mount some lights and grow paphs. I favor parvisepalums and multiflorals, some of which require a lot of light.

Oh how I miss my old SF apartment; massive bay windows, beautiful french doors, amazing wood floors, right in Nob Hill, the little old lady owner who rented it at a pre dot-com boom price (seriously, when I she told me the monthly rent I choked, in a good way)... just don't miss the weather that came along with it!
Welcome!!
