Thanks, Katrina, for standing up for the species! I only have one and then only to get my attention...but, I have a funny silk flower story...

Thanks for the helpful tip. The weather here in Vegas has been a little bit crazy. What other types of orchid can withstand the weather we have here in the Sin City?

Cats get a bad rap.Have never had an issue with any of mine AND they CAN be trained. The demise of my plants have only come from my inconsistent care and bugs...just sayin' too!

1. Do a search on "cats eating house plants"

2. There are very few orchids that might survive Las Vegas summer temperatures combined with low humidity. Perhaps Cyrtopodiums, other Eulophias and warm-growing Cymbidiums?

Welcome to the board, Tony, and I hope it's an enduring affair -- or addiction!

[QUOTE=estación seca;844635]1. Do a search on "cats eating house plants"

You have to search because you don't have cats! That being said, I rearranged poorly when I moved the sun lovers outside and lost a couple leaves to Jack...who promptly puked them up on the rug. My bad...

To expand those number out even further...between me and my neighbors there have been 15+ cats and my one guy (Cosmo) and one of the neighbors' cats were the only ones to bother plants. 2 out of 15+, in this case, shows that not all cats will destroy plants.

Just sayin'....

You're right. It's closer to 97.8% of cats. 2.2% are too lazy!

estación seca 06-06-2017 05:11 PM

I have many friends (with cats) who are unable to have houseplants.

Dollythehun 06-06-2017 09:25 PM

😲 ES...you will have one less cat loving friend if you keep it up, and you hijacked the OP's thread.

John... Hmpf...

In that case then I guess you're saying all dogs destroy everything in sight when left alone? I've seen many, many, many videos that people have posted of their dogs who have left absolute destruction in their path.

Some dogs do destroy houses and some cats will eat plants...but many do not. My only goal in the post was to point out that it's not fair to lump all cats into a category of plant destroyers because many are not.

Your math doesn't add up if you take my sample of 2 out of 15+.

As for the lazy...yes, cats do sleep a lot but I wouldn't call them lazy. Ok, yes, I do joke w/them about being lazy-butts....but they also have very active times. And, for the record, our Newfies were just as "laid back" as any kitty we've ever had. Couch potatoes for sure!

Dolly -- I guess we can't let it get to us...'haters gonna hate'. They just don't know and I find it to be truly unfortunate because w/that attitude they will never know the joys of being owned by a cat. ;) In this household...we are both dog AND cat lovers and they all bring great joy to our lives. Not to mention...lots of comic relief.

Oh, and how rude of me not to have done this sooner....Welcome to the group, Vegas!
