Hello orchidniks,

I got interested in orchids maybe six months ago, after reading up a little and then buying a grocery store Phalaenopsis -- which I promptly severely sunburned and thereby converted into a rescue case. It is still in recovery, but has a leaf growing now, and seems to be doing a lot better in general!

Later last year I tried to rescue a Cymbidium that was already in bad shape in the store, but the poor thing didn't make it. I have also acquired two other phals; they seem to be doing great.

I've been wanting to "branch out" from Phals, and recently picked up a Dendrobium 'Blue Planet' and an Epidendrum 'Neon Valley' at my local Orchid Society's plant sale. These are probably going to want a bit more light than my windows will provide, so I've been researching options for supplemental/artificial lighting -- and that's what led me to the board! It is chock full of goodness so far.

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome to the Orchid Board. This place is full of people who are both very knowledgeable and also quite willing to share. There's a section here on growing under artificial lighting, so you might want to look there.
