Are you going to expand your epiphytic efforts? A few years ago a member of this forum attached orchids to trees in his local dog park.

I think it would be pretty amazing if you could establish a population of orchids on trees that naturally colonized surrounding trees. Cattleya walkeriana would be an excellent candidate. Well... maybe it depends on which part of Brazil you live?
Hi! I wish I had the time to do something like the guy from Miami, but right now I'm working on a different city and can only return home on weekends.

The good news is I'm not the only one doing this, as it's very common for people here to mount abandoned orchids on trees everywhere, but it's mostly the ones you can find easily like phalaenopsis, oncidiums and dendrobium nobile. I even created a thread about this when the phal season started, here:
Phalaenopsis in bloom everywhere

Regarding the Cattleya walkeriana, it was my latest addition. I've been looking for one for a long time but they're usually insanely expensive. Last week I was able to grab a cheap one and now it's mounted already

They're not native from my region of the country but they do just fine here. There's a tree in a park a few blocks from where I live that has lots of them growing on it.

I finished working on the third tree today. I ended up mounting 16 phals on it. Most of them are done blooming and are developing new leaves already. If they keep going at this rate, each plant might have 3 to 4 new leaves by the end of summer. On the base I mounted 4 dendrobium phalaenopsis just to fill the empty space.

There is also an oncidium flexuosum and a Lc. 'Irene Finney York' that I got as a seedling and has just developed a new bulb.

This is what it looks like right now:

And some different angles of the other trees:

This cattleya in the middle developed 5 new leaves at the same time, which is a lot considering it only had 6 leaves. It basically doubled in size in 3 months or so. Now the pseudobulbs are getting nice and plump. I'm hoping it will bloom for the first time later this year.

And finally, now I have a Cattleya walkeriana, right next to the vanda! If you look closely you can also see that the oncidium "Aloha Iwanaga" on the upper right has a new spike.

Here's an update on my orchids. At this point most of them are well established and the trunks are covered in roots.

I did lose one beallara and one wilsonara, but they were pretty small and looked terrible from the start.

The white oncidium twinkle finally started opening its buds after several weeks, and I also have 2 sharry babies, a zygonisia, 2 denphals and several phalaenopsis in spike.

I realized that my area might be too dark for some of the cattleyas, but now that they have 20 in long roots I don't want to mess with them. Maybe they will never bloom, maybe they will.. who knows!

Nicely done, I'd love to see those palms in a year or two when all the orchids have had a chance to fill out and orient themselves. Though I have a suspicion that things are going to get a bit crowded.
