Question Mtssa. Estrelita 'Sweet Senorita' leaves turning yellow

I bought the very large plug at a local botanical show. I don't know anything about growing this orchid. I potted it in a coarse orchid mix, watered it, set it in the window with the rest of my orchids and the leaves are turning yellow. What do I need to do to save it?

How long ago did you pot it? When did the yellowing start? Are the yellowing leaves the side (bract) leaves, or the ones growing from top of the pbulb? How often is it watered?

Some more info is needed. Miltassias have fine roots so a coarse mix will need something else to help it hold moisture unless you are watering it rather frequently. Both of the parents to this primary hybrid do not like to be completely dry and wouldn't want too much bright direct light. Is it getting good humidity and moisture and some shade from direct light?

Default Mesa. Estrelita

Bought plug 2 weeks ago, potted in fine orchid potting mix and watered thoroughly. Set in front of window with other orchids. The outer leaves started turning yellow in about 7 days. I then repotted it in a coarse orchid mixture and thoroughly watered it again and set back near window. One week later outer leaves turning yellow. Not all, just 4 of 15 leaves. I mist them every day. No direct sunlight.

If all else seems good, I probably wouldn't worry

I may be reading this wrong, but it sounds like you've only watered it a few times in a few weeks. How frequently are you watering? Miltassia like things cool and evenly moist, so it may be dropping leaves if it's too dry and warm. From what I've found, misting leaves is not an effective way to hydrate plants. The three times I did this a few plants succumbed to leaf rot each time.

Welcome to the Orchid Board! I haven't grown this, but I concur misting of leaves is usually a bad idea. The roots take up water. Wet leaves take up fungus.

Hello and welcome to the board. I too think it may be just either adjusting to your environment or you are not watering enough.
