HELLO from (very very sunny) Dubai!!!
Hello everyone! I'm a complete newbie that hails all the way from Dubai, UAE. I've got a steadily growing collection of Phal orchids who I love like babies and talk to them everyday - they even have names! Alfie, Bob and Tim.
Do you believe in loving something too much? I always thought I had a brown thumb and it looks like I do as the boys aren't looking too hot. Hopefully y'all can help me figure out what's going on!

Welcome! You will certainly be able to provide heat and light. There is a permanent thread about how to take care of Phalaenopsis in trouble. You can read it here:

How is the humidity in Dubai? If it's not too dry, it could be a good place to raise orchids.

Maybe a little too much heat haha...But since all of them are being grown indoors I think the problem is providing them with ENOUGH heat and humidity. Thank you so much for the link, going to go devour the info now!!!

It's super humid outdoors but it would be too hot...temperatures in the day (even in shade) go up to around 110+ degrees (Fahrenheit). So that would be just a death sentence...unless there are orchids that survive temps like that that I don't know about? |

Cymbidium canaliculatum
A succulent cymbidium. Common grex is "little black sambo"
Eulophia petersii tolerates temperatures well over 100 to freezing (just how much over 100? Plus they are huge) From Africa.
These last 2 notes: Look up the "Tuscon Cactus and Succulent Society Newsletter." They have some very interesting articles regarding desert growing orchids which might put you on your path. Tusconcactus.org
I grow mine outdoors but it only gets above 100 a few times a year. I still must keep shade cloth over mine, but that cools things down very well.

Undamaged at 117F in dappled sun under an African sumac tree, Rhus lancea. (I'm supposed to now call it Searsia lancea but I don't feel like it.) It dies if it gets to 32F / 0C. |
