Hey there.

My addiction actually started with getting a copy of "The Orchid Whisperer" for Christmas last year. After all, I decided that I needed a cattleya or five.

Since I couldn't (and still can't) find any locally and didn't want to order online I settled on a wally world Phal. She wasn't the best looking one on the rack - she actually looked a bit pathetic with some droopy flowers - but she was yellow so I took her home and settled her on an eastern windowsill.

She lost all but two flowers in the shock... then true to their tough-as-nails reputation bounced back spectacularly. A little funny looking from loosing so many flowers in the middle, she's grown four more on the end of the spike. She's even given me a new leaf, and a non-shriveled root.

And then it happened: I talked myself into order two or three cattleya seedlings from a grower a few hours away.

Yep. Three. Except I ordered seven. No idea what happened there....

The seedlings: five cattleya alliance, a nobile dendrobium and a pretty little vanda (Aerides) that hopefully won't break my heart... or that I won't break her's.

They all ship out tomorrow (monday), and I've been thinking about them pretty much constantly since I ordered them five days ago. I mean, originally they were all going onto that eastern windowsill. But now? No way will there be room for eight plants on there. So I've been considering which ones will go there, which will get a southern 'sill (covered porch) or maybe western. Then there's grow lights. Will there be enough light? Will I be running out on Wednesday in a panic to buy a floor lamp? (LOL) Will the (more appropriate) fertilizer I ordered arrive before the new plants need a drink?

I've started channeling my mother's joie de worrywort and it's a bit terrifying.

But. I'm. Just. So. Excited.

Hello and welcome to OrchidBoard. Your catts and vanda will do better with more light. Your Nobile dendrobium will take less light.

Thanks for the welcome!

Last week I could've sworn it wasn't possible for me to worry this much. Apparently I'm more like my mother than I'm willing to admit, since she has worrying down to an art form!

Hello and welcome. Phals were the gateway drug... Err....orchid for me too. What started as one Phal has turned into 7 phals, 1 Dracula , 3 slippers, a brassavola nodosa, and a Vanda that I too worry about killing. Next week I add another Vanda.

Welcome to Orchid Board.
You don't mention where you ordered from but I am guessing it might be Cloud's. You will be in for a treat if that is the case as I have only ever received healthy lovely looking plants. Have fun!

Yes, I ordered from Cloud's... after I stalked the website for a good five months.

I'm thinking of taking a road trip to their repotting workshop next weekend, but I'm sort of scared that I'd be coming home with more plants. Has anyone here attended their talks before?

First it is one, then maybe eight and then you wake up one day and realize that you have so many it is hard to count them all....

Hello and welcome!
