Blue Phalaenopsis.... is it really permanent blue?
Default Blue Phalaenopsis.... is it really permanent blue?

I'm a newbie here and to orchids. I almost literally bumped into a display of blue orchids at Home Depot a couple of weeks ago and fell in love instantly. Hiving lived in Hawaii some time ago, I knew it wouldn't be; easy to grow here in Vermont. I did go home and do some web reading and finally went back and purchased one. I just hope I don't kill it. I have my fingers crossed and this site bookmarked.

Thanks in advance.....

Claire

Welcome aboard, Claire.

No, they are injected with blue dye. Future bloomings will be white.

Welcome to Orchid Board. I hate to be the one to break it to you but those blue phals are dyed. They inject blue dye into the stem of a white phal. Never the less, enjoy your orchid. They are pretty.

This perinatal optimist just KNEW it was too good to be true but hope springs eternal. Oh well, it sure is pretty now AND I wan't be that disturbed if I, by chance, happen to kill it.

They are justd dyed. I actually own one of these from Home Depot it was a gift. I noticed an injection spot on the flower spike where they injected the dye. The flowers will probably be white next bloom.

Welcome to the bored.

In a word, NO. It will still be a lovely plant that will give you years of blooms with proper care.
