Default ANOTHER NEW HOBBIEST

HELLO PEOPLE,
LOVE THIS SITE. DONT KNOW WHO IS CAPABLE OF CREATING THIS GREAT PLACE BUT THANKS FOR DOING IT. IVE BEEN TRYING TO BROWSE AROUND IT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS.(IM NOT EXACTLY WHAT YOU WOULD CALL A COMPUTER GENIUS.) MY NAME IS JAMMINJOE AND I LIVE IN COCOA BEACH FLORIDA. MY ORIGINAL TROPICAL GARDENING HOBBY HAS LEAD ME TO ORCHIDS BECAUSE I HAVE NO PLACE LEFT FOR MORE FISH PONDS AND EXOTIC PALMS AND PLANTS. WHEN I DO SOMETHING I IMMERSE MYSELF PRETTY DEEPLY AND ALTHOUGH I ONLY HAVE HAD ORCHIDS FOR A YEAR OR SO IM AROUND 400 PLANTS RIGHT NOW. NO GREEN HOUSE I JUST INCORPORATE INTO MY GARDEN. I DID BUILD A LITTLE FRAME WHICH I WILL LOAD THEM INTO IN THE WINTER WITH A LITTLE HEAT AND COVER.
AS A TROPICAL GARDENER I WATER PRETTY HEAVY AND THE VANDAS LOVE THIS WITH ABOUT TEN IN BLOOM AT THIS MOMENT IN OCTOBER. MY DENS ARE ALSO BLOOMING FAIRLY WELL. MY CATS ARE RECO VEERING FROM LAST WINTER WHICH GOT TOO COLD. ANYONE FROM MY AREA OR IF NOT WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
WELL IM PRETTY CHATTY FOR A FIRST BURST BUT THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED FOR THE THE GOOD OF OTHERS.
SINCERELY JAMMINJOE

Hi Joe

The guy who put this wonderful place together...and keeps making it better...would be Marty

Your collection sounds simply amazing and if you've read through our threads here, you'll know we are also addicted to pictures of orchids I look forward to seeing pics of your setup!

You say you tend to totally immerse yourself...so choosing orchids is perfect for you! With 400 in a year, I'd say you're right on track

Are you planning on attending the World Orchid Conference in Miami Jan 23-28, 2008? If you want some info, check out this site:
19WOCEntry

It's going to be mind-boggling!!!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask...you've just made lots of new friends

WELCOME!
Glad you have joined us here at OB
You can thank Marty the administrator for creating the best orchid board on the net and all the moderators who keep this board going with their invaluable help and humor.
Despite your lack of space, best thing about orchids is that you can always hang them
How many of your 400 plants are orchids? What other kinds of orchids do you have besides vandas?
Do you have Vanda (Papilionanthe) teres var. andersoneae? (The one vanda I would love to have) Photo and some information about Vanda teres var Andersoneae
Please post any s you have of your flora!
We all love to and

thanks for responding folks! this is great.
UM IM NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT PUTTING PHOTOS ON THE BOARD BUT I MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET SOME HELP WITH IT IN THE FUTURE.
EVEN THOUGH IM A NEW ORCHID MAN I HAVE OVER FOUR HUNDRED ORCHIDS TO CARE FOR. THATS NOT INCLUDING MY TROPICAL PALMS AND OTHER STUFF.
ABOUT HALF ARE VANDAS WHICH I HAVE BEEN BUYING LIKE AN ADDICT. THEY LOVE MY HEAVY WATERING HABITS FROM THE REST OF THE GARDEN. THEY DIDNT DO WELL UNTIL I TURNED THE SPRINKLERS RIGHT ON THEM FOR HOURS.
IM ON MY LUNCH BREAK AND GOTTA GO BACK TO WORK BUT THE FAST RESPONSE IS FABOULOUS.
THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING THERE
THANK YOU MARTY WHO I HAVENT READ ABOUT YET OR WHERE HE IS FROM.
HAPPY ORCHIDING!!!! IS THAT A WORD?

Welcome to the Orchid Board. Glad you joined us. Vandas are one of my fav groups to look at (I live in NYC and don't think I can grow them). So I consider you blessed to be able to grow them.

HELLO AGAIN
JAMMINJOE HERE
SORRY I TOOK AWHILE TO GET BACK TO THE NICE FOLKS WHO SAID HELLO.
SATURDAY MORNINGS IS MY GARAGE SALE DAY. MOST OF MY GARDEN STUFF I ACQUIRE FROM PEOPLE CLEANING OUT THEIR UNWANTED THINGS. I CALL THIS LOW BUDGET- TO NO BUDGET GARDENING. IT USUALLY TAKES THE REST OF THE WEEKEND TO FIND A SPOT FOR MY SATURDAY MORNING TREASURES.
(THIS IS WHERE I GOT MORE THAN HALF OF MY ORCHIDS)
THAT MIAMI SHOW- A DEALER OFFERED ME A JOB -HELPING HIM SET UP HIS BOOTH. UNFORTUNATLEY I HAD TO PASS BECAUSE OF MY REGULAR JOB. IM SURE ITS FABOULOUS AND ON MY LIST OF THINGS TO DO IF I EVER GET SOME REAL SPENDING CASH.
FROM WHAT I CAN TELL ABOUT VANDAS SO FAR- NEW YORKERS MIGHT HAVE A TOUGH TIME WITH THEM. IVE GOT SO MANY THAT I DECIDED TO TRY HANGING HOOKS ON THE WALLS IN THE ENTRANCE TO MY HOUSE BECAUSE IT LOOKS COOL TO SEE THEM AS YOU ENTER. UNFORTUNEATLY THEY DETERIRATED PRETTY QUICKLY. (WITHIN DAYS I SAW WEAKENING IN THE PLANTS) UM IF YOU HAD A CONTROLLED ENVIORNMENT WITH HUMIDITY YOU MIGHT PULL IT OFF UP THERE BUT ITS GONNA BE A CHALLENGE. TO ME THOUGH THIS IS THE GREAT THING ABOUT ORCHIDS. YOU NEVER ACHIEVE TOTAL SUCCESS. JUST DIFFERANT PLATEAU S OF UNDERSTANDING AND TRYING DIFFERANT THINGS IS FUN.
OK OFF TO MOW THE YARD...
TALK TO ANYONE WHO WANTS REAL SOON.
JAMMIN
