Default Hello from Indiana!

Hello all!

I am definitely an orchid beginner, but I love learning and I have already spent hours reading about my orchid. I had some orchids (3 grocery store phals) several years ago but I lost them all in a house fire and was kind of discouraged and never made any attempt to get more. However this year my mom decided to get me an orchid for Valentine's Day, and it was like I had never lost the obsession/addiction. I think the onset of the obsession was hastened by seeing all of the beautiful pictures on here while doing my research. I didn't really do research on container culture when I had orchids before; I just researched how they grew in the wild and went on instinct from there. I don't know if that is really a great way to go about it, but it worked alright for me for several years.

Welcome to orchid board!
I think that studying the way they grow in the wild is a very good way to learn to grow them.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I can tell that OB is going to be an indispensible source of information. I already spent most of a weekend just browsing about and reading. I'm starting a wishlist for when I go to the garden show next month. After all, Floyd is going to be lonely being the only orchid in the apartment.

WhiteRabbit- Luckily no one was home when the fire started except the cat and the plants.
