Thank you Tucker! I appreciate you reaching out. Maybe one of you guys can help here. Every time I do a new image for my fine art prints I post on the blog, on FB and of course on gigapan. Is the best way to share here to post it in the album I started or is it best to insert the image in the post?

Best,

Kevin

The system allowed me to upload. This is a good thing. The supermodel here is ascda.fuchs sunkist orange glow and you can see a little of the scale of the prints in my studio. I have 13' ceilings so the 10' print in the back barely has room on the wall.

My deal with Liz and Don O'Toole is we wait until one of their plants is in really good form and then bring it to the studio for its photoshoot. Can you imagine bringing all this stuff to their greenhouse?

I will post the finished versions of this plant soon.

Thanks Jack. I am very fortunate to have found such a beautiful subject too! Most folks are fascinated to see what goes into making a big fine art print. The shoot takes about half a day for the plant and the bloom and then it takes days to painstakingly remove the background and the wires supporting the plant or bloom. In the end it is worth it though.

One note: the plants don't really like the fluorescent lights in the studio so I don't keep them there that long. Liz and Don keep a plant on rotation in the studio next to their greenhouse business cards, but blooms don't stay on for long. I wish we had the kind of light that they loved, but on the other hand, it is a good thing getting new plants in all the time for visitors to appreciate.

Thanks Jack. I don't know about smart but I work hard to create something a little different. Photography has changed so much with the advent of digital cameras. To make it now, one has to create a niche where others either can't, or won't go through the trouble to duplicate the work. I have a very good camera that has been modified to allow me to create these images, plus it is a major pain to do so. At the end of the day, there are images that people like.

The cool thing is, however, the subject is the orchid. It is above my pay grade to be able to create something that beautiful. I can't grow them either, so without the growers I wouldn't have a subject.

I thought up this three line statement describing the process of turning orchids into fine art:

Grown with love.
Photographed with care.
Shared with joy.

I am sure everyone on this forum gets this, particularly the first part!
