Default Greetings from Northen Virginia

I just registered on this site yesterday. Great site and loads of information. I started collecting orchids last year while living in Germany. Unfortunately, when I moved they could not come with me. My collection stands at about 35 orchids. I never pay for orchids, but rather collect the unwanted and sick orchids, then nurse them back to health. I have Ascocentrums, Oncidiums, Cattleyas, Maxillaria Tenuiflora, dendrobiums, Phaphs, Phals, Brassovola Nodosa, and a Zygopetalum. My collection has been on my rear porch all summer and doing great. I have a miniature dendrobium in spike and probably will bloom within a week. I will post it for identification. I attached a photo of my collection.

Welcome Aboard the OB Doug!

Great to have you join us! Wow, you must be doing great if all you do is resuce and bring them back from the dead! Just curious : do you dumpster jump or are they given to you? I have been dying to jump into a dumpster and grab the orchids people throw out at Walmart and Home Depot.
Sounds like maybe you're in the military...? Am I right in assuming since you moved from Germany to VA?
Again, welcome!

I advertise online and people generally respond favorably. I work for the govt, but not in the military.

Welcome to the orchid Board. Glad you were able to join. Trading and rescues are the most fun way of getting a collection going.

Hi Doug,

Welcome to the OB! Glad you joined
Your method of getting orchids is actually pretty cool. I've dumpster dug before. (shh, don't tell) There is a nursery not far from me that has weekly treasures in its big green bin!
Your growing collection looks awesome! Congrats for saving their poor little lives.

Welcome Doug. Nice setup you've got there! Yes post a pic of your miniature Dendro and we'll try to help you.
