As far as I know there aren't any Phals that are deciduous !!! ALL my Phals are evergreen and keep their foliage all year long !!! I DO have 75 of my favorite genus which IS mostly deciduous and lose all their leaves after about a 9 or 10 month season = Catasetinae is the alliance of which I am fondest and speaking of !!!
The only one you mentioned that MIGHT be deciduous is your Dendrobium. |

Actually, there are semi-deciduous and deciduous Phal species. These are species that tend to grow in cooler climates. In cultivation they usually either hang on to their leaves, or only drop a few of them. Some examples are Phal wilsonnii, lobbii, parishii, lowii.... But in terms of the usually cultivated mass produced Phals, you are right, there are no deciduous ones.

Didn't know that Camille ! I have 19 Phal species and accidentally didn't ever add one of those you listed as deciduous to my collection !

Deal !!! Actually it wasn't an accident that I didn't add them to my collection it was an accident that none that I have are deciduous ! I purposely didn't add the ones you listed because I didn't like them enough to do so !

Sorry for poor phrasing... What I mean is phals are in bloom for just couple of months... I look at the leaves for the rest of the year so they better be nice |

Oh I read your blog too...and as far as Cattleyas are concerned: some growers put the whole overflowing pot inside a bigger pot because they do not want to disturb the roots...the Catts sulk and wont bloom for a season if you disturb the roots too much...
But putting it in a bigger pot filled with sphagnum moss is weird...it should be in a Cattleya medium
