New to terrestrial plants and epiphytic plants
Default New to terrestrial plants and epiphytic plants

Hello!

I am currently a proud owner of a $5 orchid from wal-mart that I have no clue as to what species or even genus it is in. I am not new to keeping plants, however, most of mine are aquatic. I keep aquariums and have am trying my hand at growing aquarium plants emersed. If you are on any aquarium forums you will find me over at plantedtank.net.

I am only 14 years old and my parents and I are moving to Kauai. I hope to join the botanical gardens there simply because I love all plants. I am trying to get rid of most the plants I have right now sadly simply because it is hard to take them with you when you move across the pacific ocean. I am just trying to learn, observe and hopefully eventually, have my own screened orchid growing house. I do not want to be limited to just orchids though, I want to keep any and all plants because they all appeal to me, however orchids are one of the coolest plants out there.

I hope you can put up with all my stupid questions

Caton

Hi Caton!

Sorry you will have to leave most of your plants behind. I'm sure you will be able to grow many orchids in Kaui - I have been to Kaui, tho it was a loooong time ago - beautiful island!

Don't worry about asking questions - every one here is very friendly

Welcome to Orchid Board! I just spent a week in Kauai this past Nov. You are moving to a beautiful place. It's not called 'The Garden Isle' for nothing! You should do well with many tropical plants.

Saw many of your posts over at plantedtank.net. You certainly have a knack with plants, aquatic & terrestrial. If you do half as well with orchids as with your planted tanks, you will do fantastically. Looking forward to your future posts.
