Default Hello from Orange Park, FL

Hello All!

I'm a new member to the board and likewise a new member of the Jacksonville Orchid Society. Like others, I've kept orchids over the years with varied success, and have decided its time to learn about my affliction.

Cheers,

Art

Default Orchids in the house

Thanks for the response. I'm now up to 21 orchids, which are in the house while blooming, and otherwise are hanging in a tree in the backyard.

Yesterday at the Grand Re-Opening of Green Earth Nursery & Landscaping Orchids by Green Earth Nursery north of Jacksonville, I bought (er, liberated?):
  • Laeliocattleyat G.S. Bell (c. Schroderae x l. cinnabarina)
  • Phal Sogo Gotris Flora Ark (a mini)
  • Phal unknown, also a mini
  • Encyclia Nursery Rhyme (Encyclia Atronicecum x Encyclia Cordiger)
  • Alxra. Tara Venn "Mauna Kea" (I'm not sure here, but is this actually an Oncidicum?)

At the Jacksonville Orchid Society's Annual Picnic last week my wife and I bought:
  • C. Luteola (species)
  • Phalaenopsis Octoberfest 2005 [(Taipei Gold x Brother Paradise) x (Coral Lake x Lih Stripes)]
  • Lc. Fire Dance 'Patricia' (C. Aurantiaca x Fire Island)
  • Dendrobium Fortune 'Hawaiian Sunset'
  • Dendrobium Sulcatum

Before my addiction manifested itself fully, and I discovered that my wife really likes orchids, I also had the following orchids on hand:
  • Dendrobium Holly Wood
  • Phalaenopsis DtpsTaida Salu
  • Phalaenopsis - unknow type - Possibly Green Hornet
  • Phalaenopsis - unknow type
  • Phalaenopsis Brother Golden Wish 'Pine Ridge'
  • Dendrobium - unknown type
  • Oncidium Rosy Sunset 'Rosebud'
  • Angraecum Leonis
  • Epidendrum - EPC Rene Margues ‘Tyler'
  • Phalaenopsis Black Rose Golden Peoker

With all of the recent purchases, I now have 12 blooming orchids in the kitchen, and another 3 getting ready to bloom!

In addition, my wife may be persuaded that we need a green house. Time will tell.

Cheers,

Art

Hello from Jacksonville! You have a great collection to Orchid Board! BTW, I love Tom and his wife Kim - 90% of my large orchids came from Green Earth....since they've moved, it's a little ,ore difficult to get to them - I'm thinking I need to head out there....

Default Green Earth Nursery

CoolPhrog,

Tom's current green house is about 100 feet long, and he said that he has three times that much waiting to be moved to the new site.

You are also right that the new location is out of the way. However, for my wife and I, it was a nice day-trip and we stopped at Sliders in Atlantic Beach on the way home to Fleming Island.

Cheers,

Art

Default Welcome

RosieC,

Thanks for the welcome. Are you growing in the house or in a green house there in the U.K.?

Cheers,

Art

Mostly the house, but I bought a greenhouse this spring and I'm starting to put cool growers in it, so far a couple of masdies, a couple of plione and a cym.

I have phals, dens, milts/onc alliance & paphs in the house.

welcome!
I did a search for your Alxra. Tara Venn "Mauna Kea"
- it is indeed Oncidium alliance - a complex inter-generic hybrid.

From Camp Lot A Noise Tropicals: Alxra Tara Venn 1662H <br />( Brsdm. Gilded Urchin X Wils. Lisa Devos )
