Default lived in a botanical garden.

I am glad to read your posts .As a kid I lived in a large estate which we had every plant in it. African violets anthuriums, vandas in full bloom. I think every family in our area got a orchid plant in their garden .so it was like a botanical garden .Not to mention roses. I had a hesitaiotn that I might kill orchids so I refrain from growing those. But my cousin grew a lot .Vandas arandas and oncidiums .Some vandas grow 5 feet high and get 5-6 flower spikes with 10 flowers.
We have a government owned botanical garden , where there is a green house full of orchids. I respect them much I am scared to look at them even..
But now I have planted few of them in my garden. I have seen many of them

Hi Thakshila and welcome to OrchidBoard
That must've been such a beautiful place to spend your childhood!

Excuse my ignorance, but where is Columbo?

Looking forward to seeing you around the board

Hi, welcome. You shouldn't be afraid of orchids, they can be the most forgiving creatures. With a little help from all the experts around here you may well have your own orchid garden in no time at all. Afterall, sounds like you live in an orchid haven. Enjoy the forum and orchid growing.

Over my years without knowledge or interest in orchids, the fear has come to an end and Barbara is so correct with them being forgiving. Less than 2 years ago, I hated them for my own personal reasons but 75 orchids later and building, the confidence has built with "trial and error". You certainly have the envies of many of our members living within your botanical enviroment...life's dream within your country.

Hello Thakshila Smith

Welcome to the best forum on orchids on the net. It can be a great place for humor too Growing orchids can be frustrating but can be fun and is very rewarding when the flowers open

I hope that your part of Sri Lanka is free of the fighting that has been plaguing your nation all these many years and that it is peaceful for you there.

You must tell us more about the orchids and how they are grown. Also images?
If you have pictures to share that would be great!

Hello Thakshila and, yes please post pictures! Most of us will never (unfortunatly) see your part of the world. There are several Orchidboard members from your part of the world, and you can see where they are by clicking on the "member map" link in the upper-left of the screen.
