Hey Everybody!!! My name's Kim, I'm from Sydney and I've just developed an extreme obsession with orchids. I've now got 21 of the buggers, 6 cymbidiums, 2 mounted dockrillias and 13 oncidium alliances.
You all seem fun AND knowledgeable, so I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys!

Hi Snow! Oooh, you've gotta get yourself at least one of these beauties. Nothing better than a standard cym in bloom!

Hi Kim
I love to see a well grown cym. I have trouble growing them, wrong conditions I guess.

Please post pictures of yours. I can't grow them well, but I would like to enjoy yours. - - Marilyn

I will with pleasure, Marilyn. Unfortunately none are in bloom at the moment, a few are in spike, though, and I'll keep you updated as they put on that beautiful show only cyms can.

For the moment I'll just post a pic of how glorious they can be even without their wonderful blooms. This is my first cym, I rescued her (it can only be called a rescue, she was in such bad condition) from a florist nearly 2 months ago:

Hi again, Kim. You're so right about cymbidiums. I've never tried one because I didn't think I could provide the right conditions. Our local Save Mart had a really nice one that I let follow me home a couple of weeks ago. The more I live with it, the more I LOVE it. We'll see if I can rebloom it. Hope so!

Kim

^ A Colmanara Bobcat and a cymbidium???? I think maybe you're my American twin, Kim!!! You have FABULOUS taste in orchids!

My theory on the first one that jumped me was "Even if it doesn't bloom, the foliage is still far more beautiful than 90% of the darn ferns out there!". Luckily I've since found out that they suit my areas temps, although I have faith in my inabilities as a gardener to stop them achieving their potential!
