Default Hello from the sunny side of Alps

Hello orchid lovers!

I finally decided to join this extensive community I've been secretly admiring and browsing for years, sometimes more intensively then others.

I am growing orchid in my apartment. There are not that many since space and correct lighting conditions are a bit of a hassle.

I own 13 orchids, most of them from genus Phalaenopsis - one has been with me for more than 15 years and I am quite fond of it - but also one Schoenorchis fragrans and Gastrochilus retrocallus. Or is it Haraella...?

I hope to learn new things and to upgrade my orchid-keeping skills for the sake of well-being of my orchids and my mind.

Greetings from Slovenia,
Gašper

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

My mother's great grandparents on both sides left Apetin on the Danube in what is now Serbia 1914 for the US. They settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They were Donauschwaben, ethnic Germans who left Germany around 1300 to escape the Black Plague.

I'm from the decidely very gray, very rainy and very not sunny north side of the Alps (Sun? What's that????)

Don't be afraid of sharing some photos of your plants with us, we always love seeing what other orchid addicts are growing.

Thank you everyone! What a happy bunch!

estación seca, I might have some very distant paternal relatives in Milwaukee also. My father was exploring his family tree a few years back and now my brother took over that. We'll see how it goes!

Both, plus south. I live in a very special part of Kansas, on top of the only hill around.

Ugh, I am a bit nervous, since they are all quite undemanding. I uploaded a photo of my terrarium setup for bromeliads and orchid into My Gallery. I think I need a few more posts before I can post them in the forum...

Inside the terrarium I have Phalaenopsis parishii (in flower) and P. lobbii (growing a spike), Gastrochilus retrocallus (always in bloom, curently having 3 buds) and Schoenorchis fragrans (have it for 1 year and a half and still no flower).
