Smile A sunny Hello from cloudy Cornwall

Hello everyone!

Here on the net my name is Sunny, recently moved from Germany to Cornwall to study for a degree in Horticulture! Unfortunately, moving meant that I had to leave most of my collection in care and only arrived with one (now rather sad-looking) Phalaenopsis.

I got interested in orchids when I started working in a garden centre / nursery two years ago. I mostly had Phalaenopsis, a few Cambrias, a Dendrobium, a Zygopetalum, a Vanda and an Oncidium. I am quite good with general horticultural stuff but not all too knowledgeable with the specific requirements of orchids, something I hope to change in the coming years

What I love most about orchids is how much variety there is. Some are so exotic and alien and colourful, they brighten every corner

Looking forward to many great conversations and learning loads from you all!

Sunny

Welcome!

Nice that you are studying horticulture, I also studied that, partially in France, partially in the Netherlands (and then never left). I started out with a general love of plants and when I discovered orchids, I was like you, and loved the huge variety that exists.

If you need some help with your sad looking Phal, don't hesitate to ask. You can also find some good Phal care tips in this thread: The Phal abuse ends here.

Hi Sunny!

I am also new to the boards. I wish I had studied horticulture or Botany instead of Business. I would have liked it better. :-)

I had a friend that lived in Cornwall and I visited him for 2 weeks back in the 90's. I really loved the area.

Best of luck in your studies.

Marci

Good luck with your studies! My problem is that there are so many plants and so little space....

In a month, using this board, you'll become an expert.
