Hi from Southeast CT. Female
Default Hi from Southeast CT.

Hi, I've been a member for a few months. I got up the courage to do a few short posts. Enough so I could post a photo! I have had plants forever but orchids only for about 5 years. In the last year I began to figure them out a little and be more successful. I have learned to not mess so much! That orchids are very slow growers. I think I have "messed" a number of orchids to death. Recently I have fallen in love with species bellina in particular Phal. Samera and Phal. Dragon Tree Eagle, these I discovered through Orchidphile. The flowers and fragrance are just great. I think this is the beginning of a long love affair .
I look forward to being a more active part of OB. I have so many questions. Maybe now, I'll take the risk to ask the silly questions. One thing I'm intimidated by is the orchid nomenclature. How do you keep it straight? It is so confusing to me. Donna

and to OB Dcchase. Many of us here on the board have "killed" our fair share of orchids along the way. My growing improved immensely once I became a member here. Awesome members who are always willing to offer good tips and advice. There are no silly questions. Ask away

Hi Donna and to the OB! I'm in Connecticut too.

Do you know about the CT Orchid Society Show at Van Wilgren's in Branford running Oct. 17-19? I would guess it's about a half hour drive for you. Its a small show but Carrie of orchidPhile will be there as always. More of your money will fly out of your wallet

If your really into bellina/violacea hybrids like Samera & Dragon Tree Eagle (DTE for short) you may want to check out Big Leaf Orchids Big Leaf Orchids, Fragrant and Novelty Phalaenopsis.

You'll probably find something right up your alley!!

Always happy to enable a fellow phal grower!

Judi

Hi from Southeast CT. Female
Default Thanks for the kind welcome

Thank you, Bellini girl and Judi for your kind welcome. Judi thanks also for the info about Big Leaf Orchids. I actually just got signed up with them a few weeks ago.
I met Mike Mims from Asheville, NC at the IPA get together in Bedford NH in Sept. When I purchased one of his compots, Phal. bellina ('Select #4' x 'Marley's #1'), he suggested as you, that it was a great place for the bellina/violacea hybrids.
I was hoping to go to the CT Orchid Society Show in Oct. but I will just be home from a week in ME and my daughter's wedding. So I may have to let this one go.
Thanks for asking.
Donna
