Introduction - Orchid Board

I have been growing and hybridizing orchids for over twenty years, mostly Phalaenopsis, but also Angraecoids, Bulbophyllums, Paphs and Phrags. I am particularly fond of equestris and pulcherrima hybrids, small-flowered Phal primaries. I am also continuing Herb Hager's multiflora Phal breeding lines. I grow in a warm/int. greenhouse, and operate my own "lab" (aka: garage.) I sell flasks, seedlings and stem-props from my website to help support my orchid habit. Orchids keep me busy, I do not have much time for fora-lurking, but enjoy sharing information and ideas.

Hi and welcome to the board.
I have recently become interested in Angraecoids. I was wandering if you knew if these would do well under artificial lighting. And how small are the ones that are considered miniatures?

There are a number of smaller Angraecoids that will do well under lights. I have not grown (exclusively) under lights for years, so any recommendations I make would be based mostly on second-hand information.

One thing that Fred Hillerman says is good for under-lights is Angcm. leonis from Madagascar. (There is also A. leonis from Comoro, but it is a larger plant, and takes higher light.) The Madagascan form stays more compact, and requires less light to flower. Some of the Aerangis are well-suited to under lights culture, and stay quite small. If you can get hold of Hillerman's book "An Introduction to the Cultivated Angraecoid Orchids of Madagascar", it has a number of good recommendations for growing under lights.

I am generally willing to sell to anybody that wishes to buy ... as long as they are willing to cover expenses ... usually, by the time the dust settles, only larger orders outside the US end up being reasonable due to permits. I prefer to sell only things in culture (flasks) outside the US, as it is easier.
