Default My Intro

Hi Gang.
I am in Pittsburgh PA and have very little experience with orchids. I bought a catleya on ebay and am waiting to see if it survives in my house. I had a great Phal. that died after it bloomed. I think I over watered it. I am here to find out how to keep them alive and blooming periodically.

I gave an orchid to a friend and she has proven that her technique can make orchids thrive. I need to learn the secrets.
Russ

Hi Russ, welcome to the OB! You will certainly find some excellent information here to help keep them alive and flourishing.

Thanks for making me feel welcome. Where do you buy orchids? Do you get them on line or from local orchid sources? I am sure there are people around here that sell them (other than retailers) but I don't know any.

I get them online(Andy's Orchids), or Orchid Shows. I'm going to one in NYC next Sunday.
Home depot if you get desprate. And you will always find some at the nice nursery near you.

My usual sources are any orchid show I can get to, my local society's meeting (we get some really interesting growers from all over the world) and online. Most of my online shopping is from Canadian growers, as it can be a bit of hassle with permits and expensive from other countries. Our society also coordinates special group orders to split the costs of permits and shipping, etc. Home Depot is always worth a look - sometimes you can find a hiddden gem with an accurate label.
