Default new to the site (and orchids)- anyone from Texas??
Hi there! Is there anyone from Texas here? I ask, because the climate can be so different at different times- I would love to chat with those of you from the region. Being new to orchids will be fun! (too bad I must learn patience!)

Default Used to Live in Houston
We lived in Houston until 1993, a great place to grow orchids. What part of the great state of Texas do you hail from?

San Antonio. It is not as humid here as I thought it would be- with central airconditioners removing any moisture from the house, I worry that the orchid is not getting enough humity....but I am afraid if I mist I might overdo it and cause rot...!!

I did spend a little time in Southern Texas when my sister's husband was stationed there yearssssss ago.
I remember the Kingsville /Corpus Christi area was HOT!
San Antonio and Houston are beautiful and HOT, too!

Yes- it is awful hot here- 100 degrees!! It's ok when not humid!
Irphrog- thanks for the sites- it gives better info for here!
I took my plant to an Orchid/Violet nursery, they looked at it and think it has a fungus, but with spray will be able to be saved. Got spray right away- cut the leaves off that were affected. In this area, with the plant outside they recommended watering every mornig, as it is on a bark. When I felt it the morning after I watered it was indeed very dry. The bottom roots are plumper now, but not 'greenish'- just light grey'silver.
I am keeping my fingers crossed!
