Default My intro.

I have 5 orchids but it's really hard to list them as none of them are flowering now and the pots don't have name tags. I do know I have some that are Phals and some that are Dendrobiums. My newest one has tiny white orchids with lots of green foliage. Right now it is all foliage, as are the others. One of them looks like it has leopard spots. It's been a couple of years since I've seen blooms on them so it's hard to remember what they look like. None of the pictures I have seen show the foliage, which one grower told me is the way to recognize them if they are not flowering.

We live in the San Francisco Bay area of California and our house has a sunroom. Besides the orchids, we have a few other plants in there so I put up light cotton curtains across the upper windows, draping them from one panel to the next, in order to filter the sunlight and keep it a bit cooler in the summer.

They are all growing in pots of bark. A grower at a local Farmer's Market, where I got my last orchid, gave me some fertilizer pellets and I used them but I still have no flowers. The foliage does look better though.

Each orchid does have some new foliage. I water them all when the pots feel light, about once a week right now.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Clueless,

Can you send me a picture of your orchids in your sunroom. I would like to see the color of the leaves, etc.
I can help you out if you fill me in a little more. Sounds like you have a beautiful plan and a great place to grow orchids!

Happy Growing!

Lee

I hope this works. There are pics of each of my orchids in the members gallery under cluelessinCA. I put all 5 of them in my album.

I just realized that I now have a photo icon and it will take you to my photo album. How cool.

What orchids do I have and how can I get them to flower again?

Wanda,
You must have really gotten a good laugh out of my last comment. "Silk tropical flowers...." and then I see that you live on a beautiful tropical island. Duh....You have real ones all around you.

Puerto Rico is one island we haven't visited, yet, but we would love to. We've been to Oahu and Kauai in Hawaii, Jamaica, Bahamas, St. Thomas USVI, Tortola BVI, St. Martin and Cancun. Besides sailing, my husband loves to dive. Most of our vacations are to places where he can dive. I don't dive so I sit on the beach, in the shade, and enjoy the surroundings. Smetimes I'll snorkel with our girls if they are with us, but I'm not a big water person.

Have you always lived in PR?
