Hey there orchid lovers! I have always loved orchids. My husband bought me one years ago. It was not good timing though. I was having babies, and we had no PC at the time. So I had no energy and no way to research and learn how to care for it. I really wanted it to live, but wanting is not having. Now years later the picture is different. I now have 2 orchids. I have transplanted them into appropriate(I think) pots and am caring for them as best as my knowledge allows me. But there is always room for improvement and comradery between people who like the same things. I was just searching around on the web and found this forum. I hope I can learn alot more than I already know.

A little about the orchids I have. The first is a Phalaenopsis that my husband and I rescued from Wal-Mart. It was on clearance in a cracked clay pot. The plant was actually inside in a plastic pot, there were 2 flower stalks that were done blooming. So I don't even know what the blooms look like. I found a nice ceramic pot with holes in the sides for good air flow and it has a tray at the bottom so I can keep a little water in the bottom for humidity.
The second is a Cattleya, Blc. Waianae Leopard 'Ching Hua. It is just a baby. I transplanted it too.

Can't wait to have some blooms someday....don't even know when their normal bloom cycle is though, lol. Anyway, thanks in advance for some orchid learnin' . OrchidAngel

Hi Angel. I just joined a couple of weeks ago, too. This is a very friendly and helpful forum, filled with great folks.

The Phal will probably bloom again next Spring. Depending upon the size of the adult, and the size of your baby, Cattleya it may be a while before you see blooms from it. They'll be worth the wait, though.

Welcome to the group! I noticed that you were in Louisiana. Just in case you didnt know, there are 2 shows in the next few weeks in LA. The weekend of May 31 - June 1 is a show in New Orleans, and then the weekend of July 12 - 13 there is a show in Baton Rouge. Welcome, neighbor! You will get great advice here, and you will wind up getting a few more orchids. It's only a matter of time.

I'm no expert, but let me be the first to give a little advice. The Cat leaves look a little green (it may just be the photo). Dark green leaves is often a sign of too little light. Slowly introduce it to brighter light and see if it turns a lighter color green. Brighter light will make it grow faster, and it will be more likely to bloom.

RO, it isn't just the pic. I also noticed that its alot darker than the Ph. I think it may be because it was in a darker area at the garden center as well as being in a mesh bag. Now that it is potted, it is in the same light as the Ph.

Yeah, I know hobbies like this get addictive. I love to garden as well. Is there no end??? Thats part of the fun though
