Bud in keiki ??
Default Bud in keiki ??

Think this is a flower spike? With another at its base on a phal keiki that grew from the mother last year. Can anyone confirm ? No other phal of mine has ever bloomed with this type of growth.

Welcome to the Orchid Board. I'm so sorry, but I can't tell anything from the picture. I just can't see it well enough. Maybe if you can provide a couple of additional pictures from different angles, and with brighter lighting, it would be helpful.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

It looks as though the plant is making a mixed-up growth. There might be flowers and there might be leaves. There might be both.

I’ve seen a number of terminal spikes that look similar. Could it be a keiki with a terminal spike? Usually the flower spike keeps growing out of the leaf like growth on the spike when this is the case.

I agree Alice. That was my first thought. My experience is that if it is removed, the main plant will produce another.

Thank you all. After reviewing several pictures online, it does indeed look like a terminal spike. This is growing from the middle of the Keiki. Both the mother plant and the Keiki look very healthy however. In addition, there appears to be another flower spike also coming up from the center of the Keiki next to the terminal spike. Now my question is......what do I do now?
