Received this orchid for free- any ideas?

I've been interested in orchids recently and today I finally went out to the grocery store to get my first one. I chatted with the flower clerk a bit while I looked. They were all nice but generic white or white/purple phalaenopsis, except one unlabeled display specimen shoved into a deep vase. I asked what kind it was and she said she didn't know, but it was getting too old to sell. If I could turn it around, she said she'd give it to me for free. I bought a little ceramic mushroom to go with one of my succulents and walked out with the best orchid in the store! I absolutely love the blooms, they remind me of a red Japanese maple.
Based on what I can find I think it might be a mini cattleya? I'm a little worried about the roots because it was wrapped in plastic for who knows how long. Would care tips go here or in a different thread?
