I'd like to be added to the group of people losing their minds. I have the same problem with the same plants. Given to me ... now in bloom, and not exactly what I was exptecting. What I had concluded was one of mine is pierardii, and looks alot like your first images...with more white in the throat, but it does have some purple deep inside. My other plant looks very much like your second set of pics, and I was told it is Adrasta (pierardii x superbum) which I have also seen called Astrata.

Take a look and see what you think.

I am confused.
Is D cucullatum the same specie of D pierardii and aphyllum as I thought, just a different name? or is it a similar but different specie?
