Help deciphering a Cattleya tag please? Male
Default Help deciphering a Cattleya tag please?

Recently acquired a Cattleya badly in need of repotting, during which I discovered this tag which had been lurking just out of sight. Could anyone help me decipher it? I'm afraid that, as well as the bad handwriting, there's also some bad Spanglishy spelling (I'm pretty confident that "Gren" is "Green"), but was hoping one or more of you guys might recognise at least bits of it...

I'm not sure about it but it looks like
Blc. Bicolor Alpha Green X Gamblor Green X Lc. Melecio H. Senor Perfecto

I couldn't find a registered cultivar name of 'Alpha Green' for C. bicolor, but that is what I see on the tag as well. There are registered names of C. Gambol On Green and C. Melecio Huerta 'Senor Perfecto, so I think that is what the others are.

My guess would be the parents were

(Cattleya bicolor 'Alpha Green' x Gambol On Green)
x
Melecio Huerta 'Seńor Perfecto'

After looking it up in the RHS registry, it would now be Rlc.

Gambol On Green was a Blc., now an Rlc.

Melecio Huerta was an Lc. now a C.

If the original owner belonged to an orchid society, somebody there might recognize the handwriting.

Ooh, I think I've even found a picture of it now - if it comes out flowering like this, I'll be one happy camper!

That should be it based on the tag!

I see this all too often; whoever writes the tag is careless about what they transcribe and omit the brackets - and its the placement of brackets that tell us exactly what the list of parents means. Its as if the gesture of writing the bracket is just so unbearably difficult/taxing that it proves far too challenging to the scribe, and so they get omitted.

If it's not worth doing, it's not worth doing right.
