My friend gave me a division of an orchid in his mother's yard. It just bloomed for me this year. Any idea of what it might be? Some kind of oncidium? Thank you!

Definitely some kind of oncidium. If it came from Costa Rica and you find out where it came from somebody here can probably figure out what species it is.

Looks like myrmecophilia Brisenia or myrmecophilia cross of some kind. Just google myrmecophilia and compare. It means "ant lover" and the pseudo bulbs are hollow because it depends on ants in some kind of natural beneficial way.

Definitely in the Oncidium alliance. I'm not sure if it's a species or a hybrid of some kind.

Regardless, you bloomed it very well - congratulations!

Hello!

Thank you all for your help! I'm not sure if it's from here, Costa Rica that is. His mom used to get orchids from shows sometimes and can't remember where it came from.

I still love it's brownish flowers.
