Did a little more clicking around...hoping it's an aphyllum, described by someone as a cascade of butterflies.
I can *hope* all I want...it's gonna be whatever it is.
Thanks, everyone!!!
aphyllum is culcullatum. If it is that, then you have years before it will be blooming size. Sorry to burst your bubble.

If it is lawesii or glomeratum, you are probably 2 years from blooming size.

if you strongly feel that is your plant then you will need a very dry winter rest....no water until you see buds come out....the leaves will all fall out then that is the time to hold water and fertilizer....if you water it=you will have keikis instead of flowers so control yourself not to give in to watering it....a mature bunch of that kind of orchid plant will fit a 2.5 pot easy...they don't get to be thick and long like the anosmum that grows to be 3 ft long canes....

by looking at the old bare canes beside the long cane with leaves, and by looking at the leaf formation on the healthy cane I deduced it is of flowering age....it is not a seedling or a near blooming plant....it is of flowering age.

Vegetation and proportions make me think aphyllum more than any other species, but as others have said reliable ID might never be possible even with blooms. I've bloomed an aphyllum smaller than your plant though not a couple others of similar age and greater size, but assuming that's the right ID yours certainly has the potential for flowers in the spring. If you like this kind of Dendrobium, anosmum and loddigesii are also pretty great and shouldn't be hard to grow and bloom in your climate.

Not a good idea to repost someone else's photos without explicit permission, BTW, as technically it's a violation of the owner's copyright. Better to just link directly to it, about which Orchidboard is thankfully very relaxed.

I'm amazed with the responses, information and advice. Thank you all so much!

Gnathaniel, thanks for the heads up on pic. Makes sense, thinking about it!

So, I'm gonna take it easy on the water! .
