and yeah, if it's in the root ball i'll find it when i re-pot it.

so any idea of how many months i may be looking at? i have to move by the end of august and i really didn't want to have to trouble this 'chid during its blooming phase...

Such a cute 9 month baby picture :)

I never really keep track of my Onc. spikes. It doesn't quite have defined buds yet, does it?? It could be blooming in a month now so maybe finished by Aug.

I'd say end of May to early June. Just wait a little more.

Cutie pie baby!

correct, the buds are not defined yet on either spike. i've been watching for that.

ok guys, i'll keep you posted! thanks for the input!

ok, here we are 1.5 months later... buds galore!
no blooms yet though.

also, i'm moving in about 10 days so i'm REALLY hoping i don't get budblast or any of the nasties during the move. seriously, i was expecting this to be over by now, but perhaps it's plan has been to be be blooming for our new home all along. we shall see.

also, the kokedama potting has begun to grow a few spots of white mold on the moss with the humidity of the canadian summer! i took them out with a few gentle sprays of diluted isopropyl alcohol and water, but will be very excited to repot the whole thing as soon as the blooms retire.

That is going to look incredible when it finally blooms :) I wish I had a bathroom with a window bc I would have these all over :)

one bloom has arrived on each spike!
at least 50 more buds left to pop, i'm guessing slowly over the next few weeks...

but at least now, we may be able to put a name to this NOID!

can anyone suggest what it may be?
it's not a spider like i was hoping, but i love the beachy colour of it. reminds me of my tolumnia.

i am open to suggestions!
here is a bloom and one of the spikes...

i am pretty sure it is an oncidium, but i have seen nothing exactly like it on the internet.
similar in shape and colour spectrum to a "catatante", but not exactly the same colour pattern.

10 blooms are out, will send another picture when there are a few more

Can't help you with an ID but cheers on the blooms, ya well worth the wait. Does it smell?

mrphilips 06-15-2015 12:30 PM

No, 100% fragrance free it seems. But lovely none the less.

ok, i was wrong - it's got a great fragrance now!
i started catching whiffs of it a few days ago, but as we have just moved to a gardeny area, i thought it was one of the lovelies outside, but when watering her this morning i noticed it - a lovely floral scent, with a bit of the nutty/chocolate/coconut notes. fantastic.

i have previously had it hanging, and needed a temporary place to put it in the new house as i hadn't installed a hook yet... then i found this wicker ornamental basket, and lo - it looks pretty nice in it, suspended in the candle-hole. i think it looks nice this way.

so... here's more pictures: the new "pot", the two inflorescences, a bloom, and my oscarium cuteassium

...and still open for suggestions on what this orchid could be!
