Last year, our orchid society rescued a cymbidium plant (in an 18" pot) from a fire. There was no tag in the pot (that I could see) and the owner's written records were destroyed - the owner remembered that there were pink flowers and she'd had it in her home for almost 30 years.
We broke open the pot and unravelled the root mass. Lo and behold, in the center of the root mass was the tag for Cymbidium Sheretta, a Rod McLellan cross from 1968.
Incidentally, we repotted 18 three bulb divisions. Anne's division is the first to bear a spike. 'The Phoenix' flowers will be open soon.
