Phaius? Phaiocalanthe? Male
Default Phaius? Phaiocalanthe?

Just got this orchid today, looks to me somewhat like Phaiocalanthe Kryptonite (Calanthe Rozel x Phaius tankervilleae) though there was no name tag with the plant and I've never seen that cross in person. All help appreciated (including care).

Wow! I don't know what it is, but can I ask where you got it?? I love that! It does remind me of Phaiocalanthe Kryptonite but not quite unless different cultivars differ somewhat.

Actually it looks somewhat like Phaiocalanthe Kryptonite 'Blood Bath'. Reds can look so different in different photos tho.

I have both if these and would think its the Phaiocalanthe. The care for either would be the same. Go to the AOS website and download a care sheet for Phaius and you should be just fine.

Personally, I grow them almost like a normal houseplant. Weekly watering while inside for winter with somewhat bright diffused light, then under a tree is afternoon shade while warm outside, but maybe a few extra waterings when it is extremely hot. I use Miracle Gro's orchid mix for potting these.
