Brassavola hybrid in Bloom
Default Brassavola hybrid in Bloom

Hi, everyone!

This is one of the orchids that opened when I returned from Hawaii last week.
I like the flowers a lot and it already smells quite nice at night.
I got a few more spikes and pretty soon, the whole thing will look pretty nice!

The seller told me it is a cross between brassavola and cattleya but has no tag. was also told that this is the largest flower size among related types.
The natural spread is a little over 5 inch across.

White with some maroon spots on the center of lips and on the outer side of sepals.

First two pictures are a few days old and the rest were taken today.

Wow, huge flowers. I have several brassavola crosses and find them very rewarding. What a nice welcome home!

Yeah, as the seller told me, they are really big!

and it was truly a nice welcome home! I was worried that some of the budded orchids might be negatively affected while I had been gone, but all are doing well except for a couple of oncidium hybrids that got a bit too dry.

I saw a huge clump of brassavola nodosa in bloom at the Kawamoto nursery and what a show it was. I was also reminded of my brassavola back home and wondering how it was.

By the way, the brassavola nodosa in Hawaii was growing outside in the direct sun.
The seller of my brassavola also told me it needs very strong light.
Mine is sitting very close to south window and I hope it is good enough.

How's your growing condition for yours?

Most of my B nodosa's are mounted and several get full overhead sun, others full south sun. The psb's sometimes get a bit toasted looking but the flowers are worth it.

Another set of flowers opened up this week. There were four buds initially, but one of them dried up.
These new blossoms have more dots on the lips.

One more set of three are about to open very soon.
Then there are three more spikes developing with unknown number of buds in them.

The evening and late night are never the same with the fragrance of this plant!
