Default Ang. ID please

I was at an orchid show last month and bought what was labled as Ang. cucullatum. Now that it is blooming I am wondering if that is what I actually have (although it is beautiful). My Ang. book says that the spur should is 8- 12 mm long, the spur on mine is 8 cm. a 3 inch difference. The pics on IOSPE show a short spur as far as I can tell. If not cucullatum, what??? Any help much appreciated...Jean

Jean, I think it'll be easier for you to get a response if you post a picture of your flower.

I agree with Lana, a picture will probably get you further.

Just a wild guess, but you may have the hybrid Ang. Joyce Stewart (cucullatum x scottianum), which is being sold all over the place right now. Ang. cucullatum, to my limited understanding, is pretty rare in cultivation. BTW, I think the IOSPE photo of cucullatum isn't correct, unless that plant is absolutely minuscule the spur is unlikely to be only 8-12 mm long...

Good luck!

Nat, IOSPE does not give the length of the spur, I got that measurment from the book Angraecoid Orchids, it also showed a side view of the flower. I also dont think that is a pic of the spur on ISOPE, that looks like it is the flower stem to me.

Lana, sorry, I dont know how to post pics so ....

I was commenting that the IOSPE photo I linked above doesn't appear to match the description you referenced from Stewart's book. The photo shows both pedicel/inflorescence (to the left of main stem) and nectary spur (in front of main stem and trailing off the bottom of the picture). Hard to tell because we can't see where it ends, but for the pictured nectary to only be 8-12 mm long the IOSPE plant would have to be really REALLY tiny. Not that this makes it impossible for it to be cucullatum but in my rather uninformed opinion it seems unlikely.

Here's the sticky on how to post photos: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ng-photos.html Hope this helps!
