I really like the look with the painted edges. I was wondering how I might search for this look. Is it an effect or a particular species or hybrid? Any help appreciated.

Some people refer to that as a harlequin phalaenopsis. I've also seen it called a splash petal phalaenopsis. There are many different examples of that kind of orchid available.

I agree. It's a harlequin type, but would be described as white with pink outer splashing. If you are looking for a particular hybrid (there are many) that looks like this, lookup phal lightning.

Some say epiphytic orchids are parasite, for living on trees.. However, I say that orchids are parasites for luring us humans to take them into our homes to feed and care for them. Much more care than they would get in the wild....

Tucker85 is right, there are different orchids with this or similar pattern available. Orchids.com has this one:Dtps. Champion Lightening 'Kaminali' AM/AOS (P. Mount Lip x P. New Angel)

No I wouldn't say that is a harlequin. To my understanding the harlequins are when there is a very dark purple splash which almost looks painted on one side of the flower (rather than the pigmentation being all the way through the depth of the petals, you can see the colour on the other side but it looks like you are seeing it THROUGH the usual colour on the back.

The splash like this is more like a standard pigmentation that is on the back as well.

Maybe I've always mis-understood harlequin but I think a search for that term will bring up something quite different to this. Here's a link to an example of a harlequin. Phalaenopsis 'Elegant Harlequin'

I'm not really sure what I would call the ones with the splash like this. I know at home I have the name of a hybrid that looks like this but I can't bring it to mind. If I remember when I get home I'll try and look it up but I've been having trouble remembering to do things in the evenings recently so my apologies in advance if I don't come back to you.

I'm not sure either if these properly fall into the category of harlequins. I've mostly heard of them as splash Phals.
One somewhat common one is Phal Minho Princess.

Dtps. Yu Pin Sweety looks like this also. I have a NOID one that looks exactly like it. They are pretty easy to find in the box stores like this these days.

Here is mine:

Thanks Camille, that's the one I was thinking of

I have a NoID that I call Minho Princess even though I'm not sure it is that. (It shares a multiple branching trait of Minho Princess as well as the flower colouring but it's still really a complete NoID). I just could not remember the name yesterday
