Default What are we? Type ID
These are a few of the neglected "freebies" that I was given last weekend. Hopefully I can nurture them back to health if its possible. Some are in really sad shape but all have new growth and roots. They ALL need to be re-potted and will be done as soon as I find out what they are (will look at AOS culture sheets). The previous caretaker also stated they had NEVER been fed. There are several Phals, 1 Phrag, a few miniature Catts that I know the type but not the name. Hopefully these can get possible names if and when they bloom.

Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures. Not nearly enough coffee, or maybe too much.

the first three are oncidiums (or close relatives, hard to say exactly what type). the next is vandaceous. the remainder are dendrobiums.

beyond that I can't say...but maybe someone more knowledgeable than I will know.

I have 1 vanda and the 4th picture doesn't look anything like it. Are vandas and vandaceous totally different plants?

The last 3 pictures are the same plant but different views.

vanda is a genus, vandaceous just refers to a number of similar genera that are closely related to vandas. what I was noticiing was the fans of pleated leaves and thick, hearty roots, both of which typical for vandaceous orchids.

the 5th and 6th pictures look like something from the cattleya alliance--I had missed those pictures before.

of course, I could be wrong. it certainly wouldn't be the first time!

First three are oncidiums. Looks like the next one is a vandacious plant, probally in the ascocinda family. the fifth and sixth picture are of cattleyas. The next two, #7 & #8 are dendrobiums. The last photo is of a cattleya.

Please give them some Dyna-Gro Grow and GROW ON!

The first ones could be Brassias also.

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Please disregard the idea of the catt alliance as yes, there are many other generas together making up other plants.
