Default ID assistance much appreciated

Hi All,

I'm new here from Singapore. Bought this at a local florist which are just retailers and do not know the species nor the name.

Did a quick reference on the web and i would think that this belongs to the holcoglossum family of Vanda base on their leave. Correct me if i'm wrong here.

The flowers just bloomed today and are about 1/2" wide, really petite beauties here, unscented.

Assistance to ID this would be much appreciated. Do let me know if you require more info.

Very Pretty!
Maybe seidenfadenia mitrata??
If so, they are supposed to be fragrant. You may want to give it a few more days for the fragrance to develope.

Judi

BTW....Welcome to OB! Great first post!

Thanks Judi.

I have not heard of this vanda/aerides type before, quite a unique type after a simple search on the web. No wonder the price was double that of the normal aerides at the florist. Lucky me!!!

Looks like this may be the right name...seidenfadenia mitrata, as all description does point to it, except for the scent. Is this a day-scented orchid as i only tried smelling it this evening. I will try again tomorrow.

it's definately Seidenfadenia mitrata. The flowers have to be open for a couple days before you can smell them, and the scent is strongest during the hottest part of the day.

Based on photos above, anyway to estimated the age of it? Also, can this be divided into 2?

Well, still no scent today, hoping it will develope soon.

It's difficult to say how old the plant really is. It's gotta be 5+ yrs old though. Maybe somewhere around 10 yrs, idk.

I'd leave them alone until the mount disintegrates. Then you can try to divide them if you can.
