Default Issaku Nagata?

Several months ago I picked up for $1.50 a overgrown orchid with no new growth and a dead spike. It has never bloomed in my care, so I am having quite a bit of trouble in identifying it. However, I have gotten a lot of new growth on it now and in repotting it this morning I found it easily seperated into two plants. Both look happy and healthy. But I have no idea what to expect when they finally do send up new spikes.

The tag the came with it reads "Mtdm. Issaku Nagata Epi". Of course the people at the shop were completely clueless. And I have seen no reference to that name in either of the orchid encyclopedias at the library. (I really should buy one for my home use but am not sure which is the best)

Does anyone have any ideas what I've bought? No matter what they are, I find it very exciting that there are now two healthy plants!

My thanks,
Richard

Was that the exact writing on the tag? Mtdm stands for miltonidium but the Epi and the end is epidendrum.
There should be more on the identification tag. Mojo

Hi,

the best source for hybrids is the internet database of "sander's list of orchid hybrids", Royal Horticultural Society - Plants: Registration of Orchids

The only registered hybrid of the oncidium etc group named "Issaku Nagata" is an Oncidium:
Royal Horticultural Society - Plants: The International Orchid Register

Yeah ... that was all. Hence my confusion. I wanted to tag them myself, but wanted to be sure that the info is correct on the original tag. I'm really hoping that the tag wasn't swapped with another at the garden center. As the plants get bigger, I'll snap some pics.

Hi all

Issaku Nagata used to be called Miltonidium, but now it is called Oncidium. So it is probably correct.

Epidendrum would be a very different plant. Look for Epidendrum on the net.
